About LDPO

Leeds Disabled People’s Organisation (LDPO) is run by and for disabled people in Leeds.

LDPO supports and represents disabled people from all impairment types, because we believe in empowering all disabled people to come together, connect socially, have a space for political action, and build connections.

We adopt a social model understanding of disability, which says that disability is the barriers created by society that are imposed on top of certain people with impairments. For example, if someone cannot get into a venue because there are steps, the problem is not with that person, but with the fact the building has not been built with them in mind.

We believe in the ‘three As’: Activism, Accessibility and Awareness, and together we hope that we can make Leeds a better place for everyone to live.

We welcome allies but remain a disabled-people led organisation.
